You can now bid for your very own uninhabited Japanese island, courtesy of the Chugoku Local Finance Bureau who want to auction off Mitsuko Island, situated in the Seto Inland Sea, 0.6 miles from the coast of the Hiroshima Prefecture. The island is reportedly being sold as part of a national effort to liquidate unused state land.

Japanese band Monkey Majik is well respected in Japan and the group has collaborated on singles with Jpop artists M-flo, SEAMO 高田 尚輝, and the Yoshida Brothers 吉田兄弟. In July 2007 they released their fourth full-length album “Sora wa maru de” 空はまるで, (roughly translated into “the sky is so” ) in which the title song “Sora wa maru de” became the first song in Japanese history to reach #1 on USEN Request Chart before being released. It eventually reached number 3 on the Oricon charts.

At the recent Eco-Products 2009, Japanese companies Oriental Co Ltd and Nakabayashi exhibited their revolutionary White Goat recycling machine which makes toilet paper from shredded office paper by just adding paper and water. The machine has a shredding machine built inside it and the shredded office paper first goes into a hopper where it is untangled in small batches and then dissolved in a pulper.

Learning Japanese? Hiragana Megane is an excellent online tool (furigana injector) for those of you who enjoy reading Japanese news articles and blogs but struggle to remember the readings of every kanji you come across. With Hiragana Megane all you have to do is enter the URL of the website or blog you want to add furigana 振り仮名 to and click on the Go button.


The website/blog will then now show furigana above all of the kanji in the text. There are some other alternatives such as usingthe Mozilla plug-in Rikaichan, and the slow-and-tedious method of copy/pasting unknown kanji into an online dictionary but we personally find Hiragana Megane quite useful. The world’s youngest guitar pro is 9 year old Yuto Miyazawa 宮澤佑門. This tokyo born rock guitar child prodigy was discovered by Steve Bernstein, president of Zenbu Media in December 2007 and was named “The Youngest Professional Guitarist” by Guinness Book of World Records in August, 2008.
