Young Japanese women dressed up as maids are a common site in geek capital Akihabara (Akiba).  They work in maid cafes or stand in the street handling out flyers to all the otaku who frequent the area.  Here are several photos of the Akiba maids working hard even in this hot summer heat.

Japanese cosplay DenDen Town matsuri Osaka

Every March in the Osaka electronics shopping district of Nipponbashi, colloquially named Den-Den town, んでんタウン (“Den Den” comes from the kanji for electricity, said twice: 電電)   the marchants hold a large scale festival (matsuri).

In this area is a mix of old mom and pop widget shops and mega stores, anime boutiques and maid cafes – kind of like Akihabara in Tokyo.   During the matsuri, the main street is closed to traffic and the festival program features a wide range of events all especially created for otaku. There are performances by robots, live music, demonstrations of computer graphic-art and the highlights are  a fun maid and cosplay parade (people in cartoon-character costumes) where you can soak up the otaku atmosphere.

Train otaku will love this, a train theme Izakaya  (Japanese style pub) and maid cafe called LittleTGV! 鉄道居酒屋. Little TGV is located in geek central Akihabara 秋葉原駅 Tokyo Japan.

In addition to exhibits such as a model railway and a television showing railway videos, you’ll also find cute moe waitresses  dressed in railway cosplay uniforms taking your order from cool menus that look like a version of the Tokyo Yamanote, Chuu-ou, Sobu line maps, and all of the items are named after various train lines.  If you can’t read kanji, just look at the pictures. During the evening, only the fried foods (the A line) plus salads and desserts (D line) are available.
