Like Shibuya gyaru gal fashion scene?  In the latest attempt to reproduce the success of  Jpop idol group AKB48 a new idol unit called Shibuya GAL’S is being formed.

The unit is being produced and led by the gal (gyaru) fashion model duo Yumachi & Aina  ゆまち ＆愛奈  which consists of Yuma Takahashi (21) and Aina Tanaka (21) both models for the fashion magazine Egg. After topping the Recochoku club music charts last year, they made their major label debut earlier this year and are releasing their debut album “QUEEN” this week.

Pretty Japanese fashion model and TV celebrity Moe Oshikiri 押切もえ was spotted earlier this summer in policewoman cosplay in the Harajuku district of Tokyo.   The 30 year old AneCan magazine model wore a fitting black blazer, hip hugging skirt with heels and a cute police lady hat to complete her transformation as she was chosen as an honorary police station caption for a day for the Tokyo Metropolitan police.

Moe-chan’s appointment as honorary police captain was to increase awareness of traffic accidents in the area.

A blast from the past.  A rare front cover drawing with Apple boss  Steve Jobs getting his back massaged by former Microsoft boss Bill Gates on the cover of this Japanese Mac magazine from October 2007.  The heading says -

Angela Baby アンジェラベイビー (Angela Yeung Wing 杨颖, 楊穎 ) is a Chinese fashion model from Shanghai and Hong Kong who is making waves in Japan.  Like Jessica Cambensy, her sexy and cosmopolitan looks have earned her a modeling contract with Avex and she has since been operating from Japan over the few months.  Angelababy started modeling at the age of 17 when she was discovered in Hong Kong and been modeling for the past 7 years.

Pretty Ageha fashion model and entrepreneur Eri Momoka is the face of  “Tequila Balls” テキーラボール a type of  “jello shot”  that was created at the Tokyo Kabukicho bar “NASUKA”  in 2008.  Tequila balls are 20% alcohol and contain 1/3 of a shot glass worth of tequila each and currently available in orange, blueberry, yogurt, cassis and strawberry.

NASUKA’s main patrons are hosts and hostesses who like the Tequila Balls but one  regular who happened to be a model for the massively popular cabaret style fashion magazine, Koakuma Ageha wrote about the Tequila balls on her blog which brought a sudden surge in interest from around Japan.  Read more...

Did you know that you can study manga at universities in Japan?  The first attempts to set up manga departments were greeted skeptically because universities were considered unsuited to fostering manga artists who needed creative ideas and drawing ability to be successful.

Kobe Design University is one such university that has a special manga course which gives students the opportunity to present their work to editors of manga magazines.  The curriculum for a manga major is not easy with students having to produce the equivalent of about 400 pages of storyboard over a year.
