Korean pop star Se7en 세븐 ( Choi Dong Woo 최동욱 崔東昱) is pretty popular in Japan especially among Japanese ladies. With his good looks. strong voice and concert tours in 2005, 2006 and 2007, he has built up a fan base within Japan. He’s also done the rounds of appearing on Japanese game shows and variety shows and in a very funny Japanese dating game show last year, comedian Sayaka Aoki 青木 さやか has to complete several “missions” with her date (Se7en) like she has to hug se7en and have se7en hug her back etc. First dates in Japan don’t normally end in marriage proposals but watch part 3 to see what happens! Sorry, but no subs necessary to enjoy.

It was only a matter of time when the Japanese government was going to create the new post “Anime Amabassador” to harness the power of pop culture in diplomacy. The unusual government post to promote Japanese culture through anime to the rest of the world, went to one of Japan’s best loved and most popular creatures Doraemon.
Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura appointed the popular cartoon robot cat as “anime ambassador,” handing a human-sized Doraemon doll an official certificate at an inauguration ceremony, along with dozens of “dorayaki” red bean pancakes — his favorite dessert — piled on a huge plate.
Doraemon — through voice actress Wasabi Mizuta, who spoke from behind a sliding paper screen — promised Komura that “Through my cartoons, I hope to convey to people abroad what ordinary Japanese people think, our lifestyles and what kind of future we want to build.”
