Japanese dogs enjoy specially made Wanko dog ice cream for summer
Is Japan hot enough for you this summer? It can be quite hot for animals too and one way for Japanese dog lovers to cool down their pets is to get them specially made doggie ice cream. Similar to Frosty Paws in the US, Fukaya 深谷市 based ice cream maker Akagi Nyugyo 赤城乳業 has introduced the Wanko No Ice ワンコのアイス ice pops for dogs.

Prepared from a special sugar free recipe, it is said to taste like an icey yogurt but contains little lactose so it’s better suited to canine stomachs. There are 3 container sizes, a large cup for dogs over 25Kg, medium cup for dogs 10-25kg and a small cup for dogs under 10kg. You can order online or use the handy dog map to find a shop that stocks the ice cream.
BTW, “Wanko” is a play or pun on the sound of a dog barking and in Japanese this sound is “Wan Wan”.
