Puyo Puyo 15th Anniversary Japanese TV commercial with Ebi-chan

Puyo Puyo ぷよぷよ, Puyo Pop

Puyo Puyo ぷよぷよ, (or Puyo Pop as its known outside of Japan) is a computer puzzle game made by Compile in the early 1990s for various video game systems. The game was created by Masamitsu “Moo” Niitani, who was inspired by certain elements from the Tetris and Dr. Mario series of games and used characters from Madou Monogatari: Hanamaru Dai Youchienji 魔導物語, an RPG game.

Puyo Puyo Fever was the last game released by Sega for its Dreamcast system and ported to other platforms such as Xbox, PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS, Playstation Portable, Mac OS X, Windows, PocketPC and Palm.

Recently, for the franchise’s 15th anniversary, Sega announced a version for Wii that will take advantage of the Wii Remote’s motion controls. Japan’s most famous magazine model, Yuri Ebihara 蛯原友里 was also hired to star in their television commercials.
