The Japan Red Cross Society JRCS 日本赤十字社 is the Japanese affiliate of the International Red Cross headquartered in Tokyo and with offices in all 47 prefectures of Japan. Founded in 1877, it has over 15m members, operates 92 hospitals and 79 blood collection centers. The Honorary president is the Empress of Japan.

The society is keeping up with modern times even has an maid themed Akiba Blood Donation Room in Tokyo’s Akihabara district, catering to Tokyo’s otaku, where donors are met by a young Japanese woman dressed as a maid, who provides a very enjoyable 10-minute hand massage. The hand masseuses are actually staff members of a reflexology salon located near the blood center.

Last year the society got pretty young Japanese models Yui Ichikawa 市川由衣 and Nana Eikura 榮倉奈々 to appear in their TV commercials to help promote the society and giving blood.
